Programmes in 2014

Achieving Quality Academic Results


Triple S Programme
P2 to P6 pupils were banded based on their SA2 2013 results under the Triple S programme; P1 pupils to be banded based on their spoken skill as well as Holistic Assessment results in term 2.

  • Stretch Programme for able pupils (Students who scored > 80 marks) 
  • Strengthen Programme for average pupils (Students who scored 50-79 marks) 
  • Support Programme for under achievers (Students who scored < 50 marks) 

Teachers will customize their teaching strategies and worksheets to cater to the different language abilities of the pupils. More emphasis will be given to pupils in the Support Programme to address their areas of weakness.

Structured MT Remedial Programme
P3 to P6 pupils who are identified under the Support Programme will be provided with remediation outside curriculum time. Teachers in charge will focus on story books reading and passage reading. The post reading activities will be conducted. The main objectives are to encourage pupils to read and develop their interest in reading.

Structured Comprehension Exercises for P2 to P6
Comprehension worksheets will be given to pupils to build up their reading skills to tackle comprehension questions.

Structured Composition Writing Programme for P3 & P6
To improve their writing skills, pupils will be taught good phrases and be introduced to effective writing strategies.

Holistic Assessment
We are the pilot school for holistic assessment since 2010. This year P1 to P6 are under holistic assessment programme. The focus for the H.A. will be in the class room during the lessons instead of formal examination and it is based on the individual ability learning needs.

Spoken Interaction Programme (P1 to P2)
P1 and P2 Spoken Interactive programme were implemented since 2012 to build up the spoken interaction skills for their Mother Tongue Language

Interaction Programme (P3 to P6)
Spoken and written interaction programme were introduced in 2013 for P3 and P4. This year P5 and P6 are joined the programme to strengthen their spoken as well as written interactive skills for their Mother Tongue Language.

iMTL Programme (P4 to P5)
The iMTL Portal is a channel to support Mother Tongue language’s teaching, learning and assessment. The portal was activated in 2013 for P4 and this year the portal is introduced to P5.

“Let’s Read” Programme forP1 to P4 (CL department)
Let’s Read programme was introduced for P1 and P2 for years and this year Chinese Department targeted the programme to P3 and P4 to foster closer collaboration between parents and the school to improve Chinese reading proficiency of the pupils.

The objectives of the programme are:
To motivate lower primary pupils to learn Chinese in a fun and interesting way
To increase vocabulary of pupils
To help pupils to learn Chinese characters and to improve their verbal skills.

Reading Programme
Mother tongue Department following reading programme for this year:
  • Structured MT Reading Programme for P3 & P4: Pupils are given storybooks to read and post activities will be conducted. The reading portfolio is part of the holistic assessment for P3 and P4 pupils. 
  • Supplementary Reading Programme for P1-P6: Under this programme pupils are given storybooks to read and post reading activities will be conducted. The main objectives are to encourage pupils to read and develop their interest in reading. 
  • Foundation Reading: The target group are pupils in the support programme who are weak in the reading of MT language; 
  • Class daily reading: This pre-lessons reading programme aim to build up the habit of reading among our pupils 

Conversational CL/ML Programme (CCM)
To equip students with basic oral skills and allow them to communicate with their friends and neighbours of different races as well as to bridge the language divide and strengthen racial harmony, school will conduct the Conversational Chinese / Malay programme for P3 to P5 pupils from term 2 to term 3.

Creative Writing Workshop for Primary 6 Malay pupils. (ML Dept)
A Creative Writing Workshop will be held for P6 Malay pupils to hone their creative writing skills.

Mother Tongue Fortnight

This year MT fortnight will be held in term 2, week 2 and 3. During this two continually weeks, many activities have been planned to develop pupils’ love & interest for their Mother Tongue language and culture.

P4 Mother Tongue Languages and Cultural Camp
The Mother Tongue language and Cultural Camp will be organized for P4 pupils during term 2 week 10 to foster pupils with appreciate for their MT language and culture.

P1 & P2 PAL Enrichment Programme
P1 MT PAL Enrichment Programme, the MT speech and drama, will be conducted in term 3.

Cultural Performance exposure scheme CPES (CL Dept)
To expose students to Chinese language-related cultural performances beyond the classroom, the Chinese Department has planned for P4 & P5 to a Chinese musical performance “A new race of the tortoise and the hare” in term 2.

Learning Journey to MDIS (Tamil Dept)
In conjunction with Tamil Language Festival, pupils will be going on a Learning Journey to Little India.

Fostering Partnerships with Stakeholders

20th National On-The-Spot CL Composition Writing Competition for Primary School with SCTU and Foochow Association. (CL Dept)
This year, our school is holding 20th National On-The-Spot CL Composition Writing Competition together with SCTU and Foochow Association. This will be held on term 2
