challenges, and not be afraid to
make mistakes
in our effort and the quality of our work,
always doing our best
that show others that we care
about their feelings and well being
even when no one is watching
compassion for oneself, others
and the environment
us and will not let others down
It is my honour and privilege to join the AMKPian Family.
The year 2020 had certainly been a very challenging one and I have no doubt that the most common word in our vocabulary was COVID-19. This one word has changed the world we know, disrupted our daily routines and redesigned the way learning takes place in school. Changes and restrictions had to be put in place for our school to remain a safe place for all. I am indeed proud to be part of this community of students, parents, teachers and admin/support staff, all of whom are united in a desire to provide the very best and safe environment for our children. I would like to assure you that we are prepared for school reopening on 4 January 2021.
As the new principal, I deeply appreciate the rich traditions and legacy I am coming into. AMKP was established in 1978 and merged with Kebun Baru Primary School in 2002. Over the 40 years, the school has worked towards being an inclusive and supportive community that prioritises the holistic development of the students, laying the foundation for a strong character education, and igniting their passions and inspirations through a well-balanced curriculum. The goals are to help our students discover and develop their own strengths, emerging from school as “Confident Persons, Joyful Learners and Caring Citizens”, with the courage to pursue their aspirations and realise their potential. I would like to pay tribute to my immediate predecessor, Mr Chew Mun Wai and his team, as well as past school leaders and staff, for building and leading AMKP to where it is today.
The primary school years are an exciting time when children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. Each year will provide important transitions and the acquisition of new skills that will enhance each student’s ability to apply learning in many ways. I believe that all children can learn and be successful, and that they learn best when they are connected, cared for, and cherished. AMKP is committed to providing a challenging and rigorous curriculum that helps each student progress at a developmentally appropriate pace within a safe and inclusive learning community for all students. We aim to inculcate in each child, our school R3ICE values, dispositions, knowledge and skills to face unknown situations with confidence as they learn for life. Specifically, we believe that our students can be self-directed learners with an optimistic outlook, confident communicators, effective team players and responsible citizens.
I am a firm believer that it takes a village to raise a child. Student success is therefore attributed to the strong partnerships and relationships we build between the home and school as well as within our community. I look forward to working with our parents, community partners and stakeholders as we strive to provide a conducive environment where learning is delightful and children find joy in coming to school.
On behalf of the school, I would like to wish everyone a Blessed 2021. To all our existing students, a warm welcome back, and to our new Primary 1 students, we welcome you to our AMKPian family. We look forward to a good year of learning, growing and flourishing as a community.
