InfoComm Technology (Computing)
About
The Infocomm Technology (Computing) CCA aims to excite pupils about Infocomm in a fun and meaningful way. The club’s programme focuses on two broad areas: Infocomm skills and the audio-visual aid (AVA) skills. Besides training pupils to carry out technical support duties for school events and daily duties effectively, pupils also take part in Infocomm-related competitions and projects.
Since 2014, the club has initiated Maker Centric/STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) Programs in line with the Singapore Smart Nation initiative. These programs aim to promote and encourage pupils on problem solving and creativity using technology. The maker culture represents a technology-based extension of DIY culture and revels in the creation of new devices as well as tinkering existing ones.
The maker culture in general supports open-source hardware and software. Typical interests enjoyed by the maker culture include engineering-oriented pursuits such as electronics using microcontrollers like Arduino and Raspberry Pi, building of mobile apps using MIT AppInventor, Scratch Programming and 3D Printing.
