Our Aim
-
Through the teaching and learning of reading, writing, speaking and listening components of English Language in AMKP, we hope to nurture confident communicators who enjoy learning and using English.
Our Approach
-
To develop the areas of language learning, we take into account the readiness, interests and learning profiles of students, the focus of instruction, the principles of EL teaching and learning (CLLIPS) and the EL teaching processes (ACoLADE).

-
Shared Book approach (SBA)
-
Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) - A teaching approach that transitions students to self-directed learning
-
e-Pedagogy
-
Formative Assessment (FA) Strategies
-
Differentiated Instruction (DI)
Our Key Programmes include
-
POISE@AMKP – Applied Learning Programme (P1-P6)
-
An oracy programme designed specially for our students with the aim of developing them into confident and empathetic communicators.
-
The programme will include the explicit teaching of oracy skills and opportunities for students to apply what they have learnt through drama performances, project work presentations and student advocacy activities.
-
Promoting the love for reading
-
KidsRead Programme (P1): a fun and interactive reading programme conducted by trained volunteers. kidsREAD is a nationwide reading programme aimed at cultivating the love of reading among Primary 1 and 2 students.

-
ASPIREaders Programme (P1 to P4): a reading support programme aimed at raising students’ reading levels conducted by student and parent volunteers.

-
To encourage our students to read more widely, write better, expand their horizons and prepare them for a globalised world, Little Red Dot (LRD) Newspaper is used as an authentic learning resource during English lessons. Students respond to news articles by writing or speaking about them on the school’s Padlet or TPC showcases
-
Throughout the year, our school library buzzes with exciting programmes that spark joy in reading. We also partner with the National Library Board to bring the MOLLY (Mobile Library) bus to our school. This library on wheels brings the joy of reading right to our school doorstep.

Learning Journeys
-
Primary 1 and 2 students embark on learning journeys to the Singapore Zoo and Singapore Science Centre. These outdoor learning experiences make learning come alive as students draw connections between language concepts learnt in school and their application in real-world situations.

-
Literature Appreciation PRogramme (P5)
-
Students learn about plot, character and themes in age-appropriate novel that has been selected for the level to develop skills to comprehend, interpret and respond to the text in finer details.
-
Learning Support Programme (LSP) (P1-P2)
-
This specialised early intervention programme conducted by LSP-trained teachers helps students who need additional help in developing basic literacy skills. Students are identified to attend this programme through screening conducted upon school entry.
